Misfits is the new Sugababes

 Comments

Misfits was fairly groundbreaking back in the day, long before it turned into the TV show equivilent of The Sugababes. A brilliantly casted bunch of loud-mouthed teenagers end up with super powers after a freaky storm - great idea. What's more, their story is set on a scummy council estate, which means there's loads of what we're all big fans of here - sex, drugs and violence. Most of the time it's far more of a comedy than it is a drama, with Nathan providing the majority of laughs... But then, he buggered off.

His exit scarred the show. It wasn't planned, or built up to in any way. He just wasn't there any more. And this void was just about filled by Rudy, who a lot of people took a liking to straight away but, truthfully, he could never really fully replace Nathan. That said, there was no need to 'replace' him anyway! It's just that after Nathan's very sudden vanishing act, Rudy was brought in with such urgency that he couldn't help but come across as a copycat, which meant everybody spent a little while comparing him to his predecessor before simply enjoying his performance.

And now, three seasons (or, 'serieseseses') down the line, approaching season number four, we're left with just Curtis. Now - Curtis is a sexy beast, granted, but it's such a shame that he is all that's left of the original Misfits gang. And it's even more of a shame that the show's never been able to do anything truly shocking by choice, rather than by force after one of its actors has decided to quit. How can we care what happens to the noobs when we know there's a revolving door and that next series they'll probably all be changed again? Hopefully it can find a cast it can stick with for more than one or two seasons, and maybe - just maybe - some of the old characters will pop up again some day... Or how about just getting this new bunch to sign their lives away into a five year contract for god's sake!?

The good news is that showrunner Howard Overman has told Den of Geek that he has a plan, which is unusual for him. Yes - we know. We figured that out for ourselves, Howard.

And before you bugger off like the entire cast of Misfits has a habit of doing, spend some time gawping at a picture of Curtis' hot little bum and thank god he's still in the show:

And here's something for the hetero-guys and lesbo-girls...

As you can see, plenty of reasons to watch Misfits once in a while.
