Do we really need all the answers? Heaps of those who watched and enjoyed Lost were left bitterly disappointed by the end of the 6th season's finale when a good 99% of the whacky goings on upon the island weren't properly explained. And, most recently, Prometheus caused a stir by asking far too many questions about the origins of existence itself and making zero effort to answer any of them at all.
But, here's a different view. Lost answered many of its questions as it went along - who the Darma initiative were, who the 'others' were, why nobody was looking for them, conspiracy theories - we learned all about Richard's origins and even the much joked about polar bears had a reason for the being there. We didn't appreciate these slices of island-related info at the time though because we wanted more, more, more - like, why was the island even there in the first place damn it?! And, with Prometheus, sure - a lot's been left open but we know more about where we, apparently, and the big scary aliens actually come from compared to before we sat down to watch it. We also know some of 'why'. Maybe not all of why, but certainly bits of why.
Now, Saw is often frowned upon as being unnecessarily gory, but for those who enjoyed it for the plot also loved it for its big mysteries and mind blowing twists. It may have frustrated its fans from time to time but they definitely got off on being confused. It allowed them come together online and theorise over why so and so was doing that, and why what's his name was doing this, and if they knew about what each other were doing and whether it was them who were actually doing it anyway. Brilliant. In the end it all went to pieces in Saw 3D when the fans got exactly what they thought they'd get - but didn't want it. Instead, they wanted to be consistently outdone and surprised by the films' makers, who'd quite clearly gotten lazy by that point.
Why can't we expect the same of Ridley Scott? Not the lazy bit - the being consistently outdone bit. Prometheus 2 may turn out to be the largest turd to have ever been taken in space, but it may shock us all - and not by answering our questions. One day we'll get our answers but in the meantime let's enjoy the journey, the mystery and, seeing as we've got to wait however many years until we're likely to see the next installments, let's just have a damn good guess at what might be going on with Elizabeth & David. (They might even be shagging. That'd be a shocker.)
